“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6

The History of the Murray Cole Scholarship

In 1985, a man named Deacon Murray Cole of Wenonah, NJ received a Divine vision for his Sunday School Department (formerly known as NJ Camden District of the Church of God in Christ). He was instructed by the Lord to develop a scholarship program to assist youth in their educational endeavors.

His idea quickly gained support. A group of local Sunday School Superintendents and other local supporters gathered together at the Centerton Country Club, in Centerton, NJ, to begin laying the foundation for the scholarship. The late Elder George Miller, (Supt. of the Camden District at the time), wholeheartedly gave his support, along with various other pastors. The group worked diligently and invited others  such as Gutherie Short, a local businessman and one of the first supporters of the scholarship, to join in.

Each year the scholarship grew becoming a pillar in financial assistance to countless youth aspiring to further their education. In 1997, Elder Frederick King and the members of the scholarship committee elected to rename the scholarship in honor of its founder, Deacon Murray Cole.

“One man planted, another watered, and God gave the increase.”
